Determination of Organotin Compounds |
Since 1990, the company GALAB has been engaged in the development of methods for the quantitative determination of metal-organic compounds. The methods developed have been applied in national and international measuring programs for the standardisation of procedures and for certification of reference materials. This covers the areas environment, food and consumer articles. The methods are beeing validated and by continuous participation in European interlaboratory tests constantly documented on the basis of European guidelines for the accreditation of testing laboratories. The heads of the testing departments are internationally recognised scientists, who present lectures at international conferences and publish peer-reviewed articles in international journals.

| Basis of the procedure |
The procedure works for the identification and quantification of organotin compounds of the types RnSn(4-n)+ (R = Butyl, n = 1 to 4; R = Octyl, n = 1 to 2; R =phenyl, n = 3; R = tricyclohexyl, n = 1) in textiles. The persubstituted organotin or the organotin cation is identified and quantified. According to the EDANA-Protocol the organotin compounds in the consumer articles (textiles, floor coverings, sanitary articles or diapers) and colours are extracted with a sodium diethyldithiocarbamate solution in ethanol, alkylated with sodium tetraethylborate and transferred by extraction with hexane into the organic phase. The tetrasubstituted organotin compounds are separated by using capillary gaschromatography, proven with an AED as the detector (GC-AED from Hewlett Packard, Agilent).
